To register for the Assisted Living Leadership Certificate courses, please print out these instructions and complete the following steps in the order given. |
1. Enroll as a student at American River College. Click here and begin the online application process.
- Use a valid email address when enrolling. We recommend using an email address that you check frequently. If you do not have an email address, set up an iMail account when you get to step 3.
- Provide your Assisted Living community mailing address, not your home address. (Note: If you provide an address outside of CA, you will need to pay non-resident tuition fees of $271.50 in addition to $72 for your courses.)
- Be sure to hit the submit button at the end of the application process.
- Print a copy of the Application Confirmation page.

2. Obtain your student ID number and password.
- Wait several hours after submitting your application, then go to the American River College website.
- Click on eServices/eLearning.
- Next, click on eServices, in the middle of the page.
- Click on Get Your Student ID Number and follow the directions as given.
- Click OK at the bottom of the page.
- You will enroll in courses in Step 4.
- Go back to the eServices page to obtain your login id and default password.
- Login and change the password to one you have chosen.

3. Set up an iMail account if you have not already provided an email address.
- Return to the eServices page.
- Click on Click here to activate your free iMail account in the lower left hand corner of the page.
- Agree to the terms provided by clicking on Agree, then follow the steps given to set up an iMail account.

4. Register for your courses at the CALA website.
- Come back to the CALA website.
- Click Here to register.
- Be sure to have your student ID number, email address and password available.

5. Confirmation of your registration.
- You will receive an email from CALA when your registration has been completed. Please allow 48 hours from the time you submit your registration.

6. Find out about eLearning.

7. Show up for class! "Attend" your online class the week of September 30 by going to the American River College website.
- Click on Quick Links.
- Go to Blackboard (be sure to have your student ID number, password, and course number).
- If you have trouble getting into your class, please call the eServices Help Desk at American River College at (916) 484-8152 or Rochelle in the Gerontology Department at (916) 484-8512. Be sure to mention you are part of the CALA group.

8. You will be enrolled in three separate Gerontology 299 courses, which are taken in succession, in the following order: |

| 9. Obtain your Assisted Living Leadership Certificate and 1.5 units of college credit. Upon completion of all three courses you will receive your certificate and college credits. Please allow 4 weeks to receive your certificate via mail at your community. Your college credits will be on record at American River College and can be verified with your student ID number and password. |
