What is CALA?

The California Assisted Living Association (CALA) is the only statewide association solely representing the assisted living providers who serve over 25,000 elderly and disabled individuals throughout the state. CALA members range from small independently operated communities, to multi-state providers, to those that specialize in caring for residents with dementia, to large campuses with multiple levels of licensed care. CALA members recognize the value of a strong voice, representing their needs.

Assisted Living Today and Tomorrow

Assisted living services are evolving and have become more sophisticated than ever before. Resident needs are growing and providers are expanding programs and services. Whether you’ve been in the business for years, or are a relative newcomer, you need the resources membership in CALA offers.

Keep You Informed

CALA keeps you informed via the monthly newsletter The CALA Bulletin. Members are also kept aware of any regulatory changes or urgent issues that arise through CALA Alert emails or faxes. And, CALA’s staff is on hand to provide you with technical assistance you may need.

Regulatory and legislative Support

As a member, you benefit from CALA’s accomplishments every day. Without CALA, providers would face higher costs, regulations that are more rigid and fewer options for their residents. CALA has achieved numerous successes on your behalf including eliminating the exception requirement for restricted conditions, giving providers the authority to charge a preadmission fee, the authority to call a hospice nurse instead of 911 under certain circumstances, as well as being able to admit residents already receiving hospice care.

Continuing Education

CALA delivers the highest quality educational programs so you can hone your skills, develop new programs and strategies, and meet your continuing education requirements at the same time.

Statewide Conferences and Regional Workshops

You’ll enjoy networking opportunities while earning your continuing education units at CALA’s statewide conferences and regional workshops.
